As an educator for the first 30 years of my career, I have been on both sides of the firearms debate. During that time I struggled to find a good balance between being a safe and responsible firearm owner, and the communities affected by the non-responsible. As I dug deeper and deeper into trying to educate myself, I ran up against the ‘know-it-alls’, the ‘gate-keepers’, and the people that were just downright unfriendly to ‘new’ people in their community.
So Purple Mountain Armory was born with the goal of welcoming new people into the world of firearms in a safe, friendly, and educational atmosphere. Making sure that people have the opportunity to ask questions BEFORE accidents happen is why we have dedicated so much time and so many resources to our beginner program. But whether you’re a beginner, or you just want an opportunity to come and try a large selection of firearms out on the range, we think you’ll love it here on the Mountain.
InTro to Firearms and Firearm Safety
$10/student
This beginner class is perfect for those that have never been around firearms, feel intimidated by, or are looking to explore firearms for the first time. This class can be taught in our classroom, or at your site with a minimum number of six (6) students required. The class is focused on firearm safety and how to make multiple types of firearms safe if the need arises. Students will have the opportunity to explore different types of firearms in a friendly classroom environment. This class is a pre-requisite for our Range Day Intro.
Open Classes:
April 26th 10-11am located in Dallastown
May 4th 11am-12pm located in Brogue
Range Day intro
$50/student minimum
Once you have completed our Intro to Firearms & Firearm Safety course we will take you to one of our ranges for small group time on the range. You will practice all safety protocols learned in the INTRO class while also learning and demonstrating the Safe Use of the chosen firearms. This time is designed around groups of 3-6 students and offers you the ability to fire multiple firearms across multiple calibers and formats. Firearms are based on both the desire of the students as well as the recommendation and ultimately final decision of the Range Safety Officer.
